Sonoco - Formatube

Lesley's dad kindly went and collected the tubes (our central core) yesterday morning from Sonoco in Henderson.

This is how we intend to cut our tube

Jack shows you a bit about scale...

clamped the tube down onto a table, so we can draw a line then cut in half with a jigsaw

EDL Fasteners

Yesterday we received our bolts that we're joining our layers with from EDL Fasteners.

Dimensions: M10 x 160

We laid them all out... hahaha

Holmes Consulting - Continued...

As we announced last time, we went to meet with the Engineers from Holmes Consulting on Friday. We discussed with Andy & Lisa from Holmes Consulting about our structure and we went through most of the possibilies and structural problems we have/yet to encounter, and came up with solutions to these problems.

***Holmes Consultanting Engineering Award***

We are delighted to announce that we are one of the 3 groups awarded the Holmes Engineering Consulting Award.

We will be consulting with professional engineers about general construction techniques and ideas.

After the consultation, we will be presenting to our year group our structural solutions on Monday 27 September. Each group is given 5 minutes to present, so that those who are working with the same or similar engineering issues can also benefit from the discussions we had with the engineers.

YAY!!

Construction Pieces - Reinforcing

We've finally figured out how we're going to assemble our layers!! We also worked out all the angles for the inside of the box...

Bearings!!

Today we went to our sponsor Auckland Bearings to get some bearings to see whether they fit into our rods.

Unfortunately due to the little edges on the reinforced steel, which makes an extra 1-2mm bigger than the bearings themselves, we're now resulting to possibly find some rods with a smooth surface.

However, here are some photos of the things we're going to use:

Rings we might need to use to secure our bearings in its place
