Auckland Architecture Weekend 2010 competition



Categories for entry:
This competition has two categories:


1: students of Design 4 at the Auckland University School of Architecture
2: limited open entry






All contestants must complete an entry form by Friday 10 September 2010. Entry forms will be available from this website in August.
Competition Brief

Working in groups of no less than 2 and no more than 3 people fabricate a SKYRISE.


Requirements: Your SKYRISE must reach a minimum height of 8m. The SKYRISE must take up no more than 2m x 2m square floor area. The SKYRISE must be self-supporting, you may not affix to the site in any way. All entrants will be required to prepare a health and safety plan for their project and to follow any instructions given for exhibition safety requirements.



SKYRISE Stage 1: Auckland University Design 4 students only

Tuesday 10th August.


Registration between 9:00-11:00am, jury commences 1:00pm


Level 3 exhibition space.
This part of the competition is for proposals. In this part of the competition you will present your SKYRISE project proposal to a special guest jury, who will short list then select a winning project.
Presentation time limit: each project has 3 minutes to present (including showing any animation or slides). Finalists will re-present their project in a final run off.


Format: digital presentations, A0 poster, models (supply own plinth or stand)


Jury: Eminent persons TBC


Prizes: The winning SKYRISE project will receive a generous prize package to support the further design and fabrication of your project. See website closer to the jury for updates on prizes.


SKYRISE Stage 2: All entries

Saturday 16 October
This part of the competition is for completed SKYRISE projects. In this part of the competition you will construct your project in your allotted position in sheds 1+2, 101 Halsey Street, The Viaduct, Auckland, CBD. Access to the site will be available from 12:00 mid-day. Projects must be completely installed by 5:00pm. The event will be open to the public from 5:00-9:00pm. Project must be removed by 12:00 mid-night.


This event will be advertised as part of Auckland Architecture Weekend and will be open to the public. An eminent judge will select the winning SKYRISE project.
